Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has strongly criticized the Central Government, alleging a lack of genuine concern for Telangana farmers. He stated that while the Centre only announces Minimum Support Price (MSP), it fails to take responsibility for proper procurement, leaving states to handle the burden. He claimed that Telangana is setting records in both grain production and procurement, reflecting farmer-friendly policies implemented by the state government.
He further said that the state government is purchasing paddy at the Centre’s announced MSP and has already established 8,575 procurement centers across the state. According to him, Telangana has procured around 54 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far, with payments being directly credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours. The Minister also announced that the state aims to procure up to 75 lakh metric tonnes, surpassing Centre’s limited procurement figures, and accused opposition leaders of making politically motivated comments without understanding ground realities.
