High tension prevailed in Manuguru, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, after Congress workers launched an attack on the BRS party office on Sunday. The protesters set fire to the furniture inside the office, triggering chaos in the area. Soon after receiving information, BRS leaders and activists rushed to the spot, leading to a tense situation between both groups.
The attack is said to have been fueled by long-standing resentment among Congress cadre over the ownership of the party office building. In the 2018 Assembly elections, Rega Kantha Rao, who contested and won from Congress, later defected to BRS and became the Government Whip. After switching parties, he reportedly converted the Congress office in Manuguru into a BRS office.
According to local sources, the land for the office was donated by a Congress worker out of loyalty to the party, and the building was also constructed under Congress leadership. Allegations suggest that Kantha Rao illegally took control of the office building after joining BRS.
Congress workers had been demanding the return of the property for years but could not act while BRS was in power. However, with Congress now in power and Kantha Rao’s recent electoral defeat, party activists reportedly gained confidence and decided to reclaim the space.
On Sunday, Congress workers stormed the BRS office, tore down party flags, damaged furniture, and set it on fire. The clash led to a heated scuffle between BRS and Congress supporters, forcing police intervention. Congress activists also argued with police, alleging bias in handling the issue.
