Telangana Will Secure Its Legitimate Share in Krishna and Godavari Waters: Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy

Telangana Irrigation Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has said the state government will make every effort to secure Telangana’s legitimate share of Krishna and Godavari river waters. Speaking during his inspection of the R-9 Lift Irrigation Scheme in Suryapet district on Sunday, he said the interests of Telangana farmers would be firmly protected before water tribunals, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and every other appropriate forum. He asserted that the government would not compromise on the state’s rightful water share and would put forward strong arguments wherever necessary.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also rejected allegations against the Congress government’s handling of irrigation and agricultural power, calling them baseless. He criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that despite spending huge amounts of public money over a decade, several major irrigation projects remained incomplete and the expected ayacut benefits did not reach farmers. He said the Congress government’s focus is on completing pending projects, creating actual irrigation potential, using every available drop of water efficiently and protecting Telangana’s water rights. During the R-9 inspection, he directed officials to ensure that available water reaches farmers’ fields without wastage or unnecessary delays.
