The Tamil Nadu government has announced a unique welfare initiative aimed at supporting newborns and their families. Under the newly introduced 'Thaaya Maaman Thanga Modhiram Thittam' (Maternal Uncle’s Gold Ring Scheme), every baby born in a government hospital across the state will receive a one-gram gold ring free of cost. The government has also issued an official Government Order (GO) for the implementation of the scheme.
According to the announcement, the state government will spend approximately ₹755.83 crore annually on the program. Officials believe the initiative will encourage institutional deliveries in government hospitals while providing a memorable gift to newborns and their families. The scheme is expected to benefit lakhs of families across Tamil Nadu and strengthen public healthcare services.
