The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear petitions challenging decisions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls today. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and ten other petitioners have approached the court, seeking relief against decisions allegedly taken unilaterally by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The hearing is expected to address concerns raised by the petitioners regarding the functioning of the Election Commission and the electoral roll revision process.
Another petition seeks an inquiry into alleged irregularities within the Election Commission. The proceedings are expected to focus on issues relating to electoral transparency, the revision of voter lists and the legality of decisions taken by the poll body. Attention is now on the arguments presented by the petitioners and the Supreme Court’s response. Any directions issued by the court could influence the subsequent course of the proceedings.
