Greenland Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen has made it clear to the United States that the people of Greenland demand full self-determination. He reportedly conveyed this strongly during a meeting with a special envoy sent by former US President Donald Trump, according to statements released on Monday. Greenland remains an autonomous territory within NATO member Denmark.
The remarks come in response to Trump’s earlier statements suggesting that Greenland should be acquired for security reasons. “The people of Greenland are not for sale, and there is no room for compromise on our right to self-determination,” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying by a Danish television network.
