Telangana Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu criticised the previous BRS government over its handling of Singareni workers’ issues. He alleged that the BRS government, despite being in power for ten years, failed to recognise contract workers’ concerns and neglected the issue of name changes. He also accused the party of shedding crocodile tears over Singareni employees’ welfare and said politicising compassionate appointments was inappropriate. Sridhar Babu said the Congress-led people’s government had filled 3,189 posts in Singareni after assuming office, including 2,437 compassionate appointments and 752 external recruitments.
The minister said the government was implementing a free accident insurance scheme of ₹40 lakh for around 30,000 contract workers at Singareni. He added that Singareni workers were being provided accident insurance coverage of ₹1.2 crore, which he claimed was not available to Coal India employees. Sridhar Babu also questioned why the BRS government, despite its close association with the BJP during its ten-year tenure, had failed to bring in new mines. He said the Congress government was making efforts to introduce new blocks despite not receiving adequate cooperation from the Centre.
