BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) strongly criticised the Speaker for repeatedly dismissing disqualification petitions filed against defecting MLAs, stating that such actions are contrary to constitutional values. He alleged that the Speaker’s conduct has effectively become an assault on the Constitution itself. KTR pointed out that despite clear photographic and video evidence showing the Chief Minister personally welcoming Jagityal BRS MLA Sanjay into the Congress party by draping a party scarf, the disqualification petition was rejected on the grounds of “lack of evidence.” He termed this decision irrational and said it amounted to an insult to public intelligence.
Accusing the Speaker of acting at the behest of the Chief Minister, KTR said that ignoring both Supreme Court judgments and the people’s mandate, while failing to take constitutional action against defecting MLAs, amounts to nothing short of the murder of democracy. He asserted that granting a clean chit to a defector at a time when senior Congress leader Jeevan Reddy himself is expressing strong dissatisfaction during the Jagityal municipal election campaign has severely damaged the dignity of the Speaker’s office. KTR further remarked that the Congress party, still reeling from its crushing defeat in the recent Panchayat elections, is clearly fearful of by-elections. He said the growing public anger in urban areas over the Chief Minister’s failures and alleged deception in municipal governance has left the Revanth Reddy government rattled.
He also launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that his silence driven by expectations of political gains from those orchestrating defections and sending “packages” to Delhi has stripped him of any moral right to claim guardianship of the Constitution. KTR concluded by warning that the “distorted political game” being played by the Chief Minister, despite the open defection of ten BRS MLAs without any action taken against them, will inevitably be taught a fitting lesson by the people in the public arena.
