Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has reacted to the Supreme Court’s decision to close the coal block allocation case involving former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Supreme Court accepted the CBI’s closure reports and set aside the earlier order summoning Singh, effectively bringing the criminal proceedings against him to an end.
Responding to the verdict, Sonia Gandhi praised Singh’s record as Prime Minister and described him as a leader who would be remembered for his integrity, accountability and gentle demeanour. In an article, she said the ruling marked the end of a painful episode in Indian politics and argued that the allegations made against Singh had failed to stand. She also criticised the political campaign surrounding the former Prime Minister and said the latest development vindicated his reputation.
