BJP Legislative Council floor leader Somu Veerraju questioned the procurement of low-priced ghee for preparing prasadam at the Tirumala temple, asking how quality ghee could be supplied at ₹329 when household-grade ghee costs nearly ₹2,000. Speaking to the media at the Assembly premises, he alleged that purchasing ghee at such low rates could hurt the sentiments of devotees of Lord Venkateswara. Veerraju said that comparing past and present prices without understanding quality standards was misleading and urged the former Chief Minister to clarify the issue. He emphasized that temple authorities must ensure high-quality ingredients are used so that devotees’ faith is not compromised.
He also expressed concern over the functioning of the Assembly, stating that proceedings had not run smoothly for several days and that discussions on the budget were being repeatedly postponed. Veerraju alleged that he faced resistance when he approached the Chairman to request proper discussion of members’ questions. Criticizing the allocation of speaking time, he said opposition members were allowed extended speeches under the guise of questions while ministers received limited time to respond, questioning whether such sessions were debates or mere speeches.
