

The first phase of local body elections in Telangana has witnessed an overwhelming response, with as many as 25,654 nominations filed for 4,236 Sarpanch positions across the state. Remarkably, several villages have seen intense competition, with up to six candidates contesting for a single Sarpanch seat, reflecting the high political interest at the grassroots level.
Among all districts, Suryapet and Vikarabad recorded the highest number of nominations, indicating strong participation from local leaders and aspirants. In contrast, Mulugu district reported the lowest number of filings, suggesting varying degrees of electoral activity and competition across regions.
For the 37,440 ward member posts, the Election Commission received 82,276 nominations, showcasing significant public engagement in the electoral process. Officials stated that the nomination data has been officially verified and released, marking a crucial step towards the conduct of the upcoming elections.
