Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with several INDIA bloc leaders, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on October 12, 2026, challenging alleged large-scale voter deletions and irregularities in the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The petition seeks judicial intervention over discrepancies in the revision process and calls for scrutiny of the decisions taken by the Election Commission. The move followed an opposition march towards the Supreme Court in Delhi to raise concerns over electoral transparency and voting rights.
The opposition has demanded that the SIR process be halted and that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign over what it describes as “vote chori.” These are allegations raised by opposition leaders and should not be treated as established findings. The Election Commission’s actions and the legality of the revision process are matters for judicial scrutiny. Reports indicate that the petition may be taken up alongside related matters before the Supreme Court.
