Nearly 20 months after taking charge as the Andhra Pradesh Congress chief, Y.S. Sharmila is still struggling to gain momentum. Despite her strong promises to rebuild the party and revive its grassroots network, there hasn’t been any visible progress so far, according to senior leaders. Sharmila had vowed to strengthen Congress from the ground up, but her limited field presence and low public engagement have drawn criticism. Many feel she has missed key opportunities to address public concerns and connect with local cadres.
Internal rifts within the party have also weakened her position, with some senior leaders distancing themselves from her leadership. Meanwhile, the AICC is preparing to evaluate the performance of state presidents. Sharmila’s political future may depend on that report. Still, she remains optimistic, insisting that her efforts will soon bear fruit and that Congress will regain public confidence in Andhra Pradesh.
