In a significant move, the Telangana government has withdrawn security cover for 67 political leaders across the state. As part of the review, gunmen assigned to several individuals have been removed, including those provided to the husband of the Nalgonda Mayor. The decision comes after a reassessment of threat perceptions and security requirements, aiming to rationalize the deployment of police personnel.
Among those affected is former Deputy Council Chairman Nethi Vidyasagar Rao, whose gunmen have also been withdrawn. Additionally, security personnel assigned to two BJP leaders have been removed as part of the same exercise. The move has sparked discussions in political circles, with debates emerging over the criteria used for security allocation and its implications on public representatives.
