Amid the second phase of Sarpanch elections, villages are abuzz with political excitement. The situation in the panchayat areas is intense: breakfast deliveries to every home in the morning, chicken for lunch, and liquor bottles at night – candidates are leaving no stone unturned to lure voters. They are going door-to-door, seeking support, and using phone calls, voice messages, and direct campaigning to secure votes.
In highly competitive villages, candidates are spending lavishly. In some major villages, they are winning support by providing gifts, cash bonds, and funds for community building to caste association representatives. To ensure every single vote comes their way, candidates are even pledging personal assets and lands, spending lakhs of rupees. Those hesitant are convinced through promises or assurances of future benefits.
The atmosphere in the second phase of the Sarpanch elections is now filled with voter excitement, money distribution, feasts, and the backing of caste associations, visible everywhere in the villages.
