An RTI response obtained by India Today has reportedly shed light on correspondence involving two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. According to the information cited in the report, both commissioners wrote separate letters to the Cabinet Secretary on July 29 instead of addressing them directly to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The response reportedly confirms that the two letters were received by the Cabinet Secretariat.
The report further states that, by August 5, the Cabinet Secretary had forwarded the letters to officials in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and to the office of the Chief Election Commissioner. The correspondence could potentially become relevant during Supreme Court proceedings concerning differences among the Election Commissioners. However, its legal significance and any possible consequences for Gyanesh Kumar will depend on the details examined by the court. Claims that he may be forced to resign remain speculation unless supported by an official development.
