Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said politics has the power to change people’s destinies and accused the YSRCP of undermining democracy during its tenure. Speaking to the media on Monday, he criticised YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly taking his own media team to the Election Commission and broadcasting live coverage. Chandrababu questioned the number of unanimous victories recorded during the previous government and alleged that officials were threatened, made to carry out orders and later sent to jail. He also referred to the cases involving industrialists and said the public was aware of the alleged excesses under the previous regime.
The Chief Minister said the TDP had prioritised women and youth while selecting candidates for local body elections through social re-engineering. He said public feedback and IVRS calls were used in the selection process, adding that direct elections for mayor and chairperson posts were intended to curb blackmail politics. Chandrababu accused the YSRCP of using intimidation, weapons and violence during nominations in places such as Pulivendula and Punganur, and alleged that troublemakers were being brought in from Punjab and Bengaluru. He warned that rowdyism would not be tolerated and urged people to vote for the TDP in local elections, saying their support would help ensure good governance.
