The ruling Mahayuti alliance has finalised its candidate for the Mumbai Mayor’s post, with BJP corporator Ritu Tawde set to take charge. BJP leader Amit Satam announced the decision, stating that it was taken after consultations with the party’s senior leadership. Sanjay Ghaadi from the Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena has been chosen as the Deputy Mayor.
With this victory, control of Asia’s richest municipal corporation has shifted to the BJP Shinde alliance. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the results reflected the people’s mandate for development and reaffirmed their trust in the “double-engine government.” In the 227 member corporation, the Mahayuti alliance secured a clear majority with 118 seats, including 89 won by the BJP and 29 by the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
