Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of undermining the voting rights of poor people through alleged voter deletions. He demanded an explanation from the Prime Minister and called for Kumar’s removal from office. Revanth Reddy participated in a protest fast organised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Thursday. Speaking to the media afterwards, he accused the BJP-led government of attempting to divide people along caste, religious, regional and linguistic lines for electoral gains. He alleged that voters considered favourable to the ruling party were being retained while others were being removed from electoral rolls.
Revanth Reddy questioned how the number of voters could decline despite India’s population exceeding 1.4 billion. Citing figures of 810 million voters in 2014, 910 million in 2019 and 970 million in 2024, he alleged that 130 million voters had now been removed. These figures and allegations were presented by the Chief Minister in his remarks. He described the protest as a public struggle to protect voting rights rather than an issue limited to the Congress or the INDIA bloc. Reiterating the demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s removal, Revanth Reddy invoked Jayaprakash Narayan’s Sampoorna Kranti movement and warned that Modi could be forced to vacate his position. Telangana Congress MPs accompanied the Chief Minister at the protest.
