Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has openly extended his support to actor Vijay over the controversy surrounding his upcoming film Jananayagan. Vijay, who is also the founder and chief of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is facing hurdles in obtaining certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is deliberately blocking the film’s release.
Reacting on social media, Rahul Gandhi stated that attempts to stop Jananayagan amount to an attack on Tamil culture. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to suppress the voice of the Tamil people using power, adding that such efforts would never succeed. The issue is currently under judicial scrutiny, with the Supreme Court expected to hear the matter soon.
Political observers believe Rahul Gandhi’s support for Vijay could be a signal of a possible alliance between the Congress and TVK ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. Notably, Rahul had earlier backed Vijay during the controversy surrounding the film Mersal. He also personally spoke to Vijay over the phone following the recent Karur stampede incident, further highlighting their growing political engagement.
