Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has submitted a written application before the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressing regret over remarks alleged to be defamatory. The application was filed on Wednesday by his counsel in connection with a defamation suit lodged by Kartikeya Singh Chouhan, son of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The case stems from a speech delivered by Rahul Gandhi during an election rally in Jhabua in 2018, where he allegedly linked Kartikeya Singh to the Panama Papers leak controversy. Claiming reputational damage, Kartikeya filed a defamation suit in a special MP/MLA court. Rahul Gandhi approached the High Court seeking dismissal of the case, stating that his remarks were not specifically directed at Kartikeya Singh. After hearing arguments, Justice Pramod Kumar Agrawal reserved the verdict on Thursday.
