Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the Central government of not allowing the Opposition to raise its voice in Parliament, alleging that democratic norms were being undermined. She claimed that the Centre was treating student protesters and Opposition leaders alike by suppressing peaceful demonstrations. Priyanka also alleged that she was detained by the police while extending support to protesting students, stating that the rights of students should be protected in a democracy.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the government, calling it "authoritarian" and alleging that peaceful protesters were being targeted instead of being heard. In protest against the police action on students, Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav and Mahua Moitra, attended Parliament wearing black attire. They demanded that the government address the students' concerns and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
