Actor Prakash Raj has said that elected representatives have a responsibility to answer questions raised by the media on behalf of the public. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he clarified that he does not belong to any political party but remains firmly committed to politics concerning public welfare. He said the Constitution provides for elected representatives to govern while citizens also have a role to play in democratic politics. Prakash Raj questioned why elected political leaders, including Chief Ministers and Prime Ministers, were allegedly reluctant to meet the media and respond to questions concerning the public.
Prakash Raj also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that the names of some voters were removed when they were not present at home during verification and claimed that lakhs of people had lost their voting rights. He stressed that the issue was not merely about numbers but about the fundamental rights of citizens. He also compared the current process with the earlier practice in which Booth Level Officers visited households to collect voter details, arguing that voters are now being asked to fill out forms themselves.
