Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar stated that the power sector is the backbone of the state’s economy. Speaking during the Assembly budget discussion, he praised Chandrababu as the leader who initiated power sector reforms in the country. He criticized the previous YSRCP government for severely damaging the power system and alleged that it imposed a burden of Rs. 30,000 crore on the public in the name of true-up charges.
The minister said the previous government had driven away investors from the renewable energy sector, while the current administration is putting the debt-ridden power system back on track. He claimed that their government achieved a first-of-its-kind reduction of 13 paise in true-down charges. Under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy, the state aims to generate 160 GW of power. He added that aqua farmers are being supplied electricity at Rs. 1.5 per unit, and the purchase price per unit has been reduced to Rs. 6.35, saving Rs. 340 crore. The PM Suryaghar scheme is being implemented with full subsidy for SC and ST beneficiaries.
