Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar met representatives of the united coalition of RTC employee unions, including EU, TMU and NMU, at the Ministers’ Quarters. The union leaders had recently won the RTC employee union recognition elections. The minister congratulated and felicitated them, emphasising that elections at every level are important in a democracy. He also said student union elections play a significant role in representing students’ concerns and protecting their rights, recalling that he entered politics through student union elections.
The minister assured employees that the government would work towards resolving their problems through constructive discussions rather than hurried decisions. He asked officials and union representatives to coordinate on issues related to the RTC merger process and take advance measures to prevent future complications. He also promised steps to clear retirement benefits, employee CCS dues and other pending payments. If necessary, the government would consider selling valuable RTC land to meet the outstanding liabilities, he said, adding that he had brought the matter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s attention. Ponnam Prabhakar reiterated that employee welfare, improved passenger facilities and the development of TGSRTC remain the government’s key priorities, urging staff and union leaders to work together to strengthen the organisation.
