Political tensions have escalated in Pulivendula ahead of the municipal elections, with YSRCP leaders alleging attacks on vehicles belonging to candidates contesting from Wards 33 and 31. According to party leaders, unidentified individuals allegedly set fire to lorries and motorcycles by pouring petrol on them around 11 p.m. They also alleged that beer bottles were hurled at the residence of Anjanappa, the YSRCP candidate from Ward 31. MP YS Avinash Reddy visited the damaged vehicles, met the affected candidates and expressed serious concern over the incidents.
Speaking to the media, Avinash Reddy accused TDP leaders of targeting YSRCP candidates out of fear of electoral defeat. He alleged that the opposition candidates had faced obstacles during the nomination process and were now being intimidated through attacks on their property. He also claimed that aspiring ZPTC candidates in Chakrayapet and Simhadripuram mandals were being arrested and detained at police stations. Referring to earlier attacks on Sujatha Akka Chicken Centre and a sugarcane juice stall in Pulivendula, he alleged that the police had failed to take timely action despite CCTV footage reportedly capturing the incidents. Avinash Reddy said he had contacted DSP Murali Naik and urged him to act against those responsible, stressing that the police must remain accountable to the public and act impartially. These allegations have not been independently verified.
