BJP State President Ramchander Rao strongly reacted to recent comments suggesting that the Modi government should take inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi for passing the Women’s Reservation Bill. He termed the remarks as “highly objectionable and ironic,” questioning the Congress party’s historical stance on women’s empowerment.
He alleged that despite having a massive parliamentary majority during his tenure, Rajiv Gandhi did not utilize his political strength to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill. He further claimed that the Congress government had a controversial record on women’s issues, including the handling of the Shah Bano case. Ramchander Rao also accused the Congress party of repeatedly delaying and obstructing the Women’s Reservation Bill for decades, stating that the party lacks moral authority to lecture others on women’s empowerment.
