Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Polavaram Project will be completed by March 2027. In the first phase, 119 TMC of water will be stored and supplied to both right and left canals through gravity flow.
During his visit to the project site, the Chief Minister reviewed construction works in detail and held discussions with irrigation officials, rehabilitation authorities, district collectors, ministers, and legislators. He stated that the right canal works are nearly complete, while the left canal works are targeted for completion by March this year.
Rehabilitation of 38,060 displaced families under the first phase will be completed by the end of this year with proper housing and compensation packages. The new diaphragm wall construction has reached 87% completion and is expected to be finished by February.
The government is also planning tourism development around the Polavaram dam area, inland waterways up to Kakinada port, and interlinking of rivers to make Andhra Pradesh a drought-free state.
