YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said local body elections could be conducted smoothly only under the protection of paramilitary forces. He stated that his party would present the same argument before the courts and accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of turning Andhra Pradesh into a “jungle raj.” Following Friday’s incident in Punganur, Jagan spoke over the phone with party MP P. V. Midhun Reddy.
Jagan said the party would approach the judiciary over what he described as the coalition’s “goonda raj.” He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was not interested in ensuring peaceful elections and claimed that coalition leaders were resorting to violence and attacks because of growing public opposition to the government’s two-and-a-half years of administration.
