No Political Considerations, Lawbreakers Won’t Be Spared: AP DGP Harish Kumar

Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta has issued a stern warning following violent incidents reported during the first day of nominations for the MPTC and ZPTC elections. He stated that no one would be spared for disrupting public order, tearing nomination papers or attacking police personnel. The law would be enforced strictly, regardless of political affiliation or status, he said. According to a statement released by the DGP’s office, a total of 31 incidents were reported across 13 districts on the first day of the nomination process. These included 22 clashes and incidents of public disturbance, while nomination papers were allegedly forcibly snatched and torn at nine locations.

The DGP’s office reported that stone-pelting and stick attacks occurred at six or more locations. Two cars and two motorcycles were set on fire, while two residential properties were attacked. In one incident, a house was demolished using a JCB. A police vehicle escorting candidates was also reportedly targeted with stones. So far, 16 cases have been registered, while the process of registering cases in connection with 11 other incidents is underway. The police are examining CCTV footage and videos, which could lead to further arrests. Gupta reiterated that the police would not compromise on maintaining law and order and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the law.
