Nellore Municipal Corporation Mayor Potluri Sravanthi has resigned from her post. Her resignation, announced just four days before the no-confidence motion meeting scheduled for the 18th of this month, has gained significant political importance. Speaking to the media at the Mayor's chamber on Saturday night, Sravanthi stated that she would meet the Collector on Sunday and submit her resignation letter.
The Nellore Corporation has a total of 54 corporators, one of whom has already resigned. It is reported that 42 of the remaining corporators recently joined the TDP after the general elections. In this context, Sravanthi revealed that she is resigning in protest against the no-confidence motion being brought against her. She clarified that she is only resigning from the Mayor's post and will always be available to the people.
On this occasion, Sravanthi severely criticized Minister Narayana and Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. She alleged that they were threatening the corporators who supported her and intimidating them with legal cases. She also said that they harassed women corporators. She stated that she will forever be indebted to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who gave her the Mayor's post, and to the tribal leaders. If the Collector accepts the Mayor's resignation, the no-confidence motion will become unnecessary. A new Mayor election is likely to be held with the permission of the Election Commission.
