YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister R. K. Roja has raised objections to the announcement of an unopposed election in the Nagari municipal polls. Roja and other party leaders met Chittoor District Collector Sumit Kumar at the Zilla Parishad office and submitted documents and evidence related to their candidate. They questioned the Returning Officer’s decision to declare the TDP candidate elected unopposed after the YSRCP candidate had been issued Form 7.
Roja said a case had already been filed in court and that a hearing was expected soon. She explained that the documents were submitted in advance so the Collector, who served as the election authority, could provide the relevant facts if asked by the court. Criticising the coalition government, she called for transparency in local body elections and urged officials to follow the prescribed rules when declaring candidates elected unopposed. Further developments are expected as the legal proceedings move forward.
