Mumbai Police Deny Permission for CJP Protest Seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) said on Sunday that Mumbai Police had denied permission for its protest scheduled to be held in Mumbai on October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said that if the organisation was not allowed to hold the protest, it would launch a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in Mumbai on the same day.

The CJP had earlier announced a nationwide protest from October 2 after its 24-hour ultimatum seeking the CEC’s resignation expired on Saturday. The organisation said the campaign would begin in Mumbai and subsequently be extended to cities across the country.Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk announced on Sunday that he supported the CJP’s proposed protest, although he said he might not participate in person.

Meanwhile, the CJP said that its co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and several volunteers were detained by Assam Police while they were travelling to Guwahati for the organisation’s first meeting there. The CJP claimed that Ranka and around 40 volunteers were detained.
