Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of running a smear campaign against Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. According to Chamala, Rahul Gandhi’s Janhit Yatra has been receiving an encouraging response from the public. He also said Rahul Gandhi had explained how, in his view, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had been involved in the alleged misuse of the Election Commission. Chamala alleged that the BJP was resorting to cheap politics because it was unable to accept Rahul Gandhi’s growing public support.
Chamala further claimed that the BJP was spreading misleading information about an incident involving Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Rahul Gandhi’s security personnel. He said Rahul Gandhi prefers walking alongside ordinary party workers during public programmes, while security personnel prioritise protecting him. Chamala noted that Congress chief ministers from states governed by the party and prominent INDIA bloc leaders had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s rally. He urged the Karnataka BJP and the party’s social media teams to stop what he described as petty political tactics. These statements reflect Chamala’s allegations and political position; further independent details about the incident were not provided in the statement.
