A mass public meeting will be held in Shamshabad demanding the inclusion of an OBC caste census in the national population census. The meeting will be organised under the leadership of Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar. It will be held at 2 pm near Gollapalli Road in Shamshabad. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar are expected to attend as chief guests, along with MLAs, MLCs, public representatives, senior Congress leaders and representatives of BC organisations.
The meeting will mark the beginning of an organised campaign to mount pressure on the Central government to include an OBC caste census in the national census. Congress leaders and BC organisations will demand that rights and welfare benefits be extended to BC communities based on their population figures. The Congress has extended its full support to the OBC caste census and plans to work with BC organisations to intensify the movement for the rights of backward communities.
