Manipur Congress MP Bimol Akoijam Files Defamation Suit Against Republic Media, Arnab Goswami

Manipur Congress MP and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has filed a ₹45-crore defamation suit against Republic Media Network, its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and others. Akoijam announced the legal action on September 24, stating that his legal team would take further steps in the matter. The case comes amid media reports concerning allegations made by 11 JNU students against him. Akoijam has denied the allegations and described the media coverage as unverified.

The allegations are currently being examined through JNU’s internal complaints mechanism, and no findings establishing them as facts have been reported. JNU has said its Internal Complaints Committee will follow the prescribed rules and procedures while examining the complaints. The Delhi Commission for Women has also sought information from the university regarding the complaints and steps taken.
