West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has suffered another political setback. Senior TMC leader, former minister, and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra has quit the party and joined the rebel TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, triggering fresh political developments in the state.
After resigning from the party, Madan Mitra launched sharp criticism against Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that the party's decisions revolve around him. He claimed he had advised Abhishek to step aside for six months to a year to allow the party to rebuild, but the suggestion was rejected. His remarks have sparked intense political debate in West Bengal.
