The State Election Commission has postponed the election to Ward No. 6 of Makthal Municipality in Narayanpet district following the death of a BJP candidate. The Commission said the poll was being deferred after Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Erukali Mahadev died, leading to the cancellation of the ward election. Municipal elections across Telangana are scheduled for February 11.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of February 9, a day ahead of polling, when the Ward 6 BJP candidate allegedly died by suicide. Family members alleged that harassment by rivals drove him to take the extreme step. The incident has triggered tension in the town, with police registering a case and launching an investigation. Separately, the BJP called for a protest, announcing a siege of the DGP office in Hyderabad; security was tightened with heavy police deployment outside the DGP office at Lakdikapul.
