Actor and choreographer Raghava Lawrence has clarified that he will not contest the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly by-election, putting an end to speculation surrounding his possible candidature. He said contesting the bypoll would not be appropriate and added that the opportunity should go to dedicated TVK workers who contributed to the party's success at the grassroots level. However, he made it clear that he may contest elections from another constituency in the future.
Lawrence also stated that he intends to enter politics to serve the people but has not yet decided which political party he will join. He said he would choose a party where he is treated with respect. The Tiruchirappalli East by-election became necessary after TVK chief Vijay, who won both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East in the 2026 Assembly elections, vacated the latter seat in accordance with election rules. Lawrence has now ruled out contesting the seat, ending widespread speculation.
