Congress leader P. Vijaya Reddy has approached the Telangana High Court seeking that the proposed Khairatabad Assembly by-election not be conducted until her pending election petition is decided. Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, she reiterated her claim that she had challenged Danam Nagender’s 2023 election and submitted supporting material before the court. She said her petition seeks cancellation of Nagender’s election and a declaration recognising her as the elected MLA. The Election Commission has meanwhile informed the High Court that it will not issue a by-election notification for Khairatabad until the pending election petition is resolved.
Vijaya Reddy also rejected allegations that the petition was filed at the instance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to prevent a by-election. She said the Chief Minister had no connection with the case and praised the Telangana government’s administration under his leadership. Vijaya Reddy added that Congress leaders work among the people rather than focusing only on elections and said the party would be prepared to face the election if it is eventually held. The High Court has sought an affidavit from the Election Commission on the issue and posted the matter for further hearing.
