Congress leader Vijaya Reddy has approached the Telangana High Court seeking directions to stop the issuance of the notification for the proposed Khairatabad Assembly by-election. She has requested that the election process be kept on hold until the court delivers its final decision on the election petition she filed in 2024 challenging Danam Nagender’s election. The petition names the Election Commission and Danam Nagender as respondents.
Vijaya Reddy had contested the 2023 Telangana Assembly election from Khairatabad against Danam Nagender. After the election, she challenged Nagender’s election in the High Court, alleging discrepancies in the election affidavit and seeking a declaration that his election was invalid. Her petition is still pending. Meanwhile, Nagender was disqualified as Khairatabad MLA under the anti-defection law, and the Assembly seat was subsequently declared vacant, paving the way for a by-election. Vijaya Reddy is now seeking a decision on her earlier election petition before the notification for the by-election is issued.
