The Telangana government has taken a major administrative step by approving the reorganization of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into 300 wards. The government issued GO 266 on Monday to formalize the decision.
With the recent merger of 27 urban local bodies into GHMC, Hyderabad’s metropolitan limits have expanded significantly. Following the merger, the number of GHMC circles has increased from the existing 30 to a total of 57 circles.
In preparation for the ward reorganization, GHMC’s election wing and town planning officials have already completed preliminary tasks over the past week, including boundary identification, mapping, and demographic data collection.
With the issuance of the government ordinance, officials confirmed that the formal process of ward restructuring has begun from Monday.
