At a public hearing conducted by the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) on issuing licenses for a proposed farmer DISCOM, TRS president K. Kavitha strongly criticized the government. She alleged that the government is conspiring against farmers under the guise of introducing a farmer DISCOM and warned that such a move could severely impact the agricultural sector. Kavitha questioned why the proposal was kept secret for six months if it was truly beneficial for farmers and cautioned the government against repeating past mistakes that harmed farmers.
She further demanded that public hearings be conducted across all 33 districts of Telangana, stating that the issue would determine the future of the state. Highlighting that farmers have installed around 29 lakh borewells through immense effort, she expressed concern that the proposed DISCOM could put their livelihoods at risk. Kavitha also accused the government of burdening existing DISCOMs with massive debts and urged the ERC to reject the proposal in the interest of Telangana’s farming community.
