Speculation over a possible leadership change in the Karnataka Congress gained fresh momentum following a meeting involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at Mysuru Airport on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi met the two leaders separately and together during his brief stopover while returning to Delhi after attending a private event in Tamil Nadu. The interactions have triggered intense political discussion, once again bringing the issue of a potential change in the Chief Minister’s post to the forefront.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that no political discussions took place and described the interaction as a courtesy meeting. He dismissed reports of a leadership change as media speculation. However, the Deputy Chief Minister’s office stated that discussions were held with Rahul Gandhi. With reports suggesting an earlier understanding of a rotational chief ministership between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, and as the government approaches the halfway mark of its tenure, political circles remain watchful. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge has earlier indicated that the party leadership would intervene if necessary, keeping Karnataka politics under close observation.
