Actor-politician Kamal Haasan praised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay after the state government ordered the closure of 717 TASMAC liquor shops located near temples, schools, and bus stands across Tamil Nadu. Kamal stated that Tamil families had been demanding the removal of liquor outlets from sensitive public areas for a long time and appreciated Vijay for taking swift action immediately after assuming office.
Kamal Haasan further remarked that liquor sales should not remain a core function of the government and stressed the need for stricter alcohol regulation in the state. He also said that shutting down 717 shops should only be considered the beginning and hoped the number would increase further in the future. The Tamil Nadu government recently announced that the identified TASMAC outlets would be shut within two weeks following a statewide survey, triggering widespread discussion across the state.
