Telangana Rakshana Sena chief K Kavitha accused the Congress and BRS of failing the victims of the 2017 Nerella incident. She said the affected families had still not received what she described as complete justice. Referring to the compensation announced during Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to Sircilla, Kavitha questioned whether payments of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh would be sufficient for families that had faced years of hardship. She demanded Rs 1 crore compensation, three acres of land and a government job for one member of each affected family, and urged the government to fulfil the assurances made earlier regarding the victims.
Kavitha also claimed that key records related to the Nerella incident were not available and demanded clarity from the government on the relevant jail, hospital and other inquiry reports. She sought the withdrawal of cases registered against the victims and called for the pending legal issues to be resolved. Alleging that the victims had faced injustice under both BRS and Congress governments, Kavitha said her party would write to the state government and continue to seek justice for the affected families. The Nerella case dates back to July 2017, when allegations of custodial torture involving eight Dalit and BC youths led to proceedings before the Telangana High Court and interventions by national rights bodies.
