

xternal Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, where the two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues. The meeting took place amid ongoing trade talks between India and the United States.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar wrote:
“Glad to meet @SecRubio this morning in Kuala Lumpur. Appreciated the discussion on our bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues.”
The dialogue reflects the growing strength of the India–US strategic partnership, as both nations aim to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, and defense.Union Minister Piyush Goyal recently shared that negotiations between the two sides are progressing smoothly, expressing optimism about reaching a fair and balanced trade agreement soon.Meanwhile, Marco Rubio clarified that the US’s recent engagements with Pakistan do not affect its “deep, historic, and important” ties with India. He emphasized that Washington values its partnership with New Delhi and seeks to strengthen it further through open diplomacy.The meeting also coincided with the 22nd ASEAN–India Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated virtually. He highlighted key areas of collaboration — including counter-terrorism, maritime security, and early review of the ASEAN–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace, regional cooperation, and collective efforts to combat terrorism, stressing that unity among nations is essential for global stability.
