YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the families affected by the recent boat accident in Visakhapatnam district and expressed his condolences. He met the relatives of the six fishermen who went missing and also interacted with Chinna, the lone survivor, to understand the sequence of events. According to the families, seven fishermen had gone fishing on July 1, and the accident occurred on July 4.
Jagan alleged that a timely response from the government, Coast Guard, and Fisheries Department could have saved several lives. He criticized the government's handling of the incident and demanded an ex gratia of ₹1 crore for each victim's family. He also announced that the YSR Congress Party would provide financial assistance of ₹7 lakh to each affected family, including the family of the survivor, Chinna, if the government failed to extend adequate support.
