Israel has announced that it will confer its highest civilian honour on US President Donald Trump. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Trump will be awarded the “Israel Prize for Peace” in recognition of his contributions towards Israel and the Jewish community.
Netanyahu met Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida during his US visit. The leaders discussed several key issues, including the second phase of the Gaza peace plan and the disarmament of Hamas. Following the meeting, Netanyahu revealed the decision to institute a special peace category under the Israel Prize to honour Trump.
Notably, this marks the first time Israel has decided to present its highest civilian award to a foreign leader. Speaking at a joint press conference, Trump described the honour as unexpected and deeply meaningful.
