Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has criticised the five-day judicial custody of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka following their protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Gandhi said that waving the Tricolour during a peaceful protest was not a crime and asserted that Jantar Mantar belonged to the people of India, adding that they would reclaim it.
Calling the imprisonment of protesting youth an act of cowardice, Rahul Gandhi said that students, young people, journalists and the INDIA bloc were united by a common cause. He described their protests as a collective demand for constitutional rights. The CJP leaders were remanded to five days of judicial custody over allegations including trespassing and violating legal restrictions at the protest site.
